The Wright way to eat seafood

Looking to satisfy your seafood craving in relaxed surroundings with a great vibe? The Wright Brothers has got you covered. With a few of their restaurants dotted across London, we opt to dine at the Borough Market branch – a cosy set up with a buzzing atmosphere.

Starting off with the octopus carpaccio (£10.50) – I’ll forgive them for not slicing the octopus thinly to resemble a carpaccio. However, the taste made up for the poor execution. Octopus pieces marinated in a fresh, citrus vinaigrette, topped with crushed new potatoes and a handful of leafy salad. Great dish to whet the appetite.

Up next came the scallops (£14.50) – it’s up there with one of the best I’ve had….and I’ve sampled a few in my time. King scallops served on a bed of celeriac mash. The roe (eggs) were attached, which is rare but added an extra depth of flavour to the dish. Each mouthful of the perfectly cooked pieces of scallop along with the crunch of the artichoke crisps, combined with the sultana and caper puree, created a mixture of sweetness and tartness flavours, designed to tantalise your tastebuds.

Not everybody’s cup of tea but oysters are a firm favourite of mine – The Rock Oyster selection of 6 (£18.00). These little babies needed nothing more than a squirt of lemon before being slurped straight from their shell – masking the taste with condiments is just pointless!

A seafood platter is always a good choice when you want variety and this house platter (£29.50) delivered. Mussels, prawns, clams, shrimps, snails and more oysters. All fresh and ever so tasty!

Be sure to book ahead as this place fills up quickly and note that each booking is limited to 2 hours. All of the above with a carafe of wine, including service will set you back £110. Not the most cheapest of places but the quality matches the price.
